Sustainability is a principle of resource utilization and conservation. This means that sociocultural, ecological, and economic resources are only consumed to the extent that they will also be available to future generations in the same quality and quantity. Sustainable action requires a re-thinking with regard to the conscious handling of resources and the preservation of social justice. Companies’ sustainable efforts can have positive effects, such as customer acquisition and loyalty, cost-reduction potential, gaining and securing of market shares, securing of social-legal legitimacy, gaining and loyalty of employees, as well as the establishment of a [good] reputation.
