Anyone who gets giddy at the thought of mountains, nature and snow all year round is probably also familiar with the name Zermatt.
As the highest ski resort in the Alps, this year-round destination aims to set new standards – not just on the slopes but also online. To deliver a first-class digital experience, Zermatt Bergbahnen AG relies on the pioneering expertise of valantic Austria. Since 2013, valantic has been implementing data-driven optimizations to ensure that the excitement of visiting Zermatt begins long before arrival and right from the very first click. Every aspect of the digital journey is designed with one goal in mind: an exceptional user experience.

A vacation there means majestic peaks, breathtaking nature, cutting-edge infrastructure, and a wealth of unforgettable experiences. Naturally, this rich diversity should also be reflected in the resort’s digital presence. That’s why Zermatt Bergbahnen AG and valantic Austria have been working hand in hand since 2013, following a consistently data-driven approach to bring the magic of Zermatt into the online realm.

A clear-cut case
Moving away from gut feeling and toward data-based decisions, Zermatt Bergbahnen AG made one thing clear from the start: Any website optimization would be guided by concrete user data. The goal? A fast, intuitive website tailored to user needs. Just as important: a seamlessly integrated web shop that not only works flawlessly but also delivers a visually engaging experience.
The results speak for themselves: Following targeted improvements, the online shop saw a remarkable boost. During the 2023/24 winter season (November 1, 2023 – March 9, 2024), bookings increased by 23 percent.
The available ticket selection is clearly structured and easy to navigate, ensuring users find what they need at a glance. With a dynamic pricing model, the shop offers complete transparency: A calendar view shows price fluctuations based on factors like capacity, season, and demand. The result? Maximum clarity and premium service, especially for early bookers who benefit from planning ahead.
Once the preferred ticket has been selected, it can be tailored to individual needs with optional add-ons like insurance, easily added in just a few steps. Registered users benefit even more: Travel companion details and existing keycards can be stored in the user account, speeding up future bookings and creating space for spontaneous decisions and inspiration.
Speaking of customer accounts: Personal data is accessible at any time, past orders are clearly listed, and future purchases become quicker and more convenient.
With a broad and diverse product range, the web shop offers more than just tickets. It’s a full-service destination for planning memorable experiences. To keep things organized, a convenient multi-cart function has been integrated. Tickets, souvenirs, and experiences are displayed in separate sections within the shopping cart, giving users a clear overview and full control of their purchases.
