Strategic Procurement at The Family Butchers

After the merger of Reinert and Kemper, The Family Butchers established a standardized procurement structure together with valantic. The transformation focused on digital processes, strategic category management, and automated workflows. The new organization reduces manual effort, enhances controllability, and provides a resilient foundation for future growth.

About the company

The Family Butchers is the second largest meat processing company in Germany with an annual turnover of over 700 million euros. After the company merger, valantic supported the development of an integrated procurement organization. With the help of benchmarks, process analyses and a clear strategic roadmap, potentials were specifically identified and sustainably activated. The result: measurable efficiency gains and a significantly improved procurement performance.

The project

The challenge

The procurement organization at The Family Butchers was strongly operational and offered only limited strategic direction. Without wider harmonization and digitalization, key synergies risked going unrealized — especially following the merger of Reinert and Kemper.

Consulting approach

1. Collection and analysis of procurement data and information:

  • Recording and evaluation of existing procurement data
  • Analysis of current procurement processes to identify optimization potential

2. Benchmarking of the current performance levels:

  • Comparison of the existing procurement organization with best practices
  • Interviews and external benchmarks for optimal resource allocation

3. Derivation of organizational and process optimization potentials:

  • Identification of opportunities for improvement in the procurement structure
  • Development of a target model for the procurement processes

4. Development of an implementation roadmap:

  • Definition of concrete initiatives for implementation
