Get to know usMunich/Mannheim, July 10, 2025: Digital consultancy valantic is strengthening its market position in the utilities sector by merging with energy industry specialist UTILIGENCE. With the expertise of its new group member, valantic can now offer its customers an even richer service portfolio for meeting the digital challenges faced by energy providers. The merger will focus on consulting and implementation services for the digital transformation of the energy sector, and the industry-specific solution portfolio of software provider SAP. UTILIGENCE’s client base includes municipal utilities and regional suppliers, as well as international corporations and specialized renewable energy providers.
The digital consulting, solutions, and software house valantic is now pursuing its ambitious growth targets in the energy industry in partnership with UTILIGENCE GmbH. Founded in 2010, the Mannheim-based IT service provider is the latest addition to the valantic family, bringing a seasoned team of interdisciplinary specialists for IT consulting services and the integration and transformation of SAP solutions for the utilities sector.
This model for success is driven by the strong demand for consulting, as grid expansion and digitalization, the development and scaling of renewable energies and the hydrogen economy, the heating and mobility transition, confront the industry with a deluge of challenges. Ensuring security of supply, amid increasing regulation and a shortage of skilled labor, is intensifying the pressure to act. At the same time, many companies are grappling with outdated IT systems that urgently need modernization to meet rising customer expectations for digital services.
UTILIGENCE addresses these specialized market needs through an integrated portfolio combining strategic consulting with the implementation of customized technologies and change-management process support. Its customers include companies such as Stadtwerke München, the Thüga Group, SÜWAG, and the IT service provider DEMANDO.
In the area of SAP technologies, UTILIGENCE focuses on, amongst other things, implementing industry-specific requirements using SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP, and SAP Cloud Services. In addition, the company provides comprehensive consulting on energy-related processes, including metering change procedures, energy quantity settlement in the natural gas and electricity sectors, and regulatory adjustments affecting the market roles of metering point operators, grid operators, and suppliers. UTILIGENCE uses software solutions such as uCheck to enhance the quality of data in SAP systems. Another of its key areas is the implementation, rollout, and operation of smart metering and control systems.
UTILIGENCE GmbH was founded in 2010 by Roman Chrustowski and Thomas Marcon, where they have remained managing partners ever since. Both brought extensive experience from various leadership roles at SAP and ABB Netzleittechnik to their common venture. As part of valantic, the founders will continue in their roles as managing directors of UTILIGENCE, actively shaping the company’s future direction.
Guido Schlief, Chief Commercial Officer and Partner at valantic, says: “This merger marks a strategic milestone in our growth course within the utilities segment. With this new cooperation, we’ll be able to deliver a seamless SAP service portfolio to our customers, backed by well over 1,000 highly skilled consultants and developers, in the future. This positions us to lead comprehensive transformation projects like almost no other provider can.”
Peter Stock, Partner and Head of Utilities at valantic, says: “We want to grow strongly in the utilities industry over the coming years and have secured the ideal addition to drive this ambition. With their deep experience and proven expertise in the SAP product range, UTILIGENCE is a perfect fit for enhancing valantic’s existing portfolio in the energy sector. We’re excited to welcome our new colleagues who share our cultural values and are aligned with our ambitious vision.”
Thomas Marcon, founder and managing director of UTILIGENCE, says: “UTILIGENCE identifies market trends in the energy sector as they are emerging, embraces forward-looking business models, and develops innovative solutions and products for key industry challenges. We share a strong set of common values with valantic, rooted in entrepreneurial spirit and sound partnerships. This creates the ideal framework for jointly shaping the digital future of the industry.”
Roman Chrustowski, founder and managing director of UTILIGENCE, notes: “valantic has immense implementation skills and excels at translating complex projects into practice efficiently, reliably, and with assured quality. By merging these two companies, we are uniting innovative strength with operational excellence. Together, we’re forming a strong alliance capable of delivering end-to-end support to energy utilities for all their digital challenges.”
