Basler AG successfully migrates to SAP S/4HANA with valantic using a greenfield approach

Worldwide transition to new ERP enables rapid innovation

Munich, March 18, 2024: Working with valantic, Basler AG has achieved a milestone in digital transformation. The leading international computer vision expert was one of the first in its industry to use a greenfield approach in its migration to SAP S/4HANA. The go-live happened simultaneously in Germany, and in Exton, the USA, and Singapore. With this project, the company has laid the technical foundation for greater agility and a faster pace of innovation. Now Basler and valantic are tackling targeted automation and continuous process optimization in follow-up projects.

With the switch to SAP S/4HANA, Basler AG has successfully completed one of its largest organizational projects to date. With the greenfield migration to the new ERP software, the company reduced its operational processes to the standard and created an SAP infrastructure that optimally supports business requirements, strengthens innovation, and ensures long-term competitiveness. Completion of the project is a milestone, as Martina Quast, Head of SAP at Basler, points out: “With SAP S/4HANA and valantic, we have laid the technical foundation for future corporate development and all other digitalization topics.”

Shorter innovation cycles possible

The reason for the SAP restart at Basler was that with the very customized SAP system, which had been in place for 20 years, new processes and business models could often only be implemented at great cost to the IT department. This image processing hardware and software provider relies on flexibility, short innovation cycles, and customized products and services in order to create the greatest possible benefit for its customers and be successful in the long term.

As part of the SAP S/4HANA greenfield migration, business processes were simplified, standardized, and automated as much as possible. With this demanding approach, Basler was one of the first companies in Germany to choose the ideal solution for digital transformation. After the go-live in Germany and in Exton, the USA and Singapore, the computer vision expert can now act faster and more efficiently thanks to a lean, powerful, and flexible process landscape.

valantic scores with its expertise and experience

Basler selected valantic as its project partner based on its specialists’ technical and technological expertise, their methodical transformation approach, and extensive experience with integrated SAP and process consulting in medium-sized companies. “valantic persuaded us that we could handle a project of this size at several international locations at the same time. In addition, the team was able to map end-to-end requirements from all areas of the company from a single source,” says Martina Quast.

Uli Müller, Managing Director at valantic, emphasizes: “The cooperation with Basler has been enriching for us in every respect. We are proud to have achieved an important goal in digital transformation with such an innovative company. Now we are looking forward to the next steps on our journey together.”

Follow-up projects with SAP BTP and SAP Signavio

Further efficiency gains are planned, including targeted process automation. Here, Basler will use the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) to maintain the SAP standard. SAP Signavio will also be used to continuously analyze and optimize processes. In addition, the computer vision expert plans to use the SAP Analytics Cloud for reporting that is fit for the future, and it also wants to use SAP technology to address the issue of ESG reporting (environmental, social, governance).
