TDDDG

What is the TDDDG?

The Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (Telekommunikation-Digitale-Dienste-Datenschutz-Gesetz in German) is the current name for the german law formerly known as the Telecommunications Telemedia Data Protection Act (TTDSG). It regulates data protection in telecommunications and digital services such as websites, apps and other internet-based services.

What does the TDDDG regulate?

The TDDDG transposes the provisions of the European ePrivacy Directive into German law and specifies how the protection of privacy and personal data in electronic communications must be ensured. The provisions on cookies and comparable technologies are particularly relevant: These may only be set if the data subject has expressly consented, unless storage is technically absolutely necessary.

The aim of the TDDDG is to strengthen the rights of users and at the same time create legal certainty for providers of digital services.
