What is the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)?

Unlike the Internet of Things (IoT), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) does not focus on the consumer sector or end users. The IIoT is about the connectivity of devices and production machinery in the industrial sector.

The focus is on the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in manufacturing and industrial settings, the automated control of production processes in real time, digital feedback loops, and quality control that is already integrated into the manufacturing process. A key objective is to make information available across companies in real time and to utilize it for procurement, manufacturing, production, warehousing, and delivery. Intelligent software concepts offer, for example, real-time visualization of key performance indicators for all stakeholders involved. They also provide a holistic view of the current, past, and future status of the entire value chain.
