What is e-procurement (electronic procurement)?

The term “e-procurement” (electronic procurement) refers to the electronic purchasing of goods and services using information and communication systems (e-procurement systems).

The electronic procurement process takes place primarily in the B2B sector and requires the integration of cross-organizational interfaces between the supplier and the company, which is achieved through the use of ERP systems. The goal of e-procurement is to simplify the ordering process and thereby speed it up. This makes it possible to reduce procurement costs. However, the increasing integration of suppliers leads to greater dependence on them.
