About the company

Hüttenes-Albertus is an internationally active manufacturer of chemical products for the foundry industry with around 2,000 employees in over 30 countries. In cooperation with valantic, the company optimized its procurement conditions in two central areas: Solvents and packaging materials as well as payment terms. Through targeted renegotiations and harmonization of conditions, significant savings potential in the six-figure range was realized.

The project

The challenge

There were structural weaknesses in two areas of procurement – solutions and packaging materials as well as payment terms. Non-transparent data, limited supplier selection and contractual specifications hampered the scope for material conditions. At the same time, supplier management in the area of payment terms was inefficient and highly fragmented – with a high proportion of purely net terms.

Consulting approach

Workstream 1: Solvents and packaging materials

  • Detailed price inquiries and targeted renegotiations
  • Analysis and reallocation of procurement quantities to competitive suppliers
  • Exclusion of the previous main supplier due to lack of price attractiveness

Workstream 2: Payment terms

  • Broad round of negotiations with suppliers to standardize payment terms
  • Harmonization of conditions for systemic simplification

Solutions & results in detail

The simultaneous optimization of both workstreams led to savings in the six-figure range. By realigning the product group strategy and standardizing payment terms, Hüttenes-Albertus was able to sustainably improve its procurement conditions.

Conclusion

Together with valantic, Hüttenes-Albertus realized substantial potential in strategic procurement. The improved conditions strategy increases transparency and controllability in the operational business and strengthens the company’s competitiveness.
