The project

The challenge

As a leading building materials dealer in Austria, Würth-Hochenburger was faced with the challenge of aligning a historically evolved procurement structure more efficiently and leveraging synergies within the organization. The aim was to improve procurement conditions, increase product range sales and reduce inventory costs – on the basis of a structured comparison with internal processes and external best practices.

Consulting approach

1. Structured current-state analysis across three dimensions

  • Benchmarking of key figures in comparison with BIC companies from the retail and construction supply sectors
  • Conducting structured interviews with procurement and relevant departments
  • Work distribution and synergy analysis across all procurement employees

2. Maturity assessment and best practice comparison

  • Comparison of the current procurement maturity level with external benchmarks from the valantic database
  • Identification of fields of action and target structures

3. Development of targeted optimization measures

  • Derivation of 3 concrete initiatives to establish BIC procurement
  • Consolidation of the findings into recommendations for action close to implementation
