Reduced lead time in the P2P process

More efficient P2P processes at Roche

Roche was faced with the challenge of making a complex purchase-to-pay process more efficient. Together with valantic, systemic weaknesses were identified, structures redesigned and responsibilities clearly defined. The result was a noticeable reduction in throughput times of 35 percent – with increased transparency and system utilization at the same time.

About the company

Roche is a leading international healthcare group with over 17,000 employees in Germany. Together with valantic, the purchase-to-pay processes were fundamentally revised. A targeted analysis, organizational adjustments and digitally supported structures led to more transparency, greater efficiency and a reduction in processing time by around a third.

The project

The challenge

The existing purchase-to-pay process at Roche was characterized by high system complexity. Overdue invoices and insufficient digitalization led to inefficiencies that impacted downstream work steps. The aim was to analyze the causes of these weaknesses and develop a lean, end-to-end digital solution for procurement processing.

Consulting approach

1. Analysis of the current situation

  • Critical evaluation of existing processes and structures
  • Conducting interviews and analyzing existing documentation
  • Identification of organizational and IT-related weaknesses

2. Design of optimized processes

  • Evaluation of strengths and weaknesses in the P2P process
  • Analysis of know-how deficits in the relevant departments
  • Derivation of targeted measures for process and organizational improvement, including development of a RACI matrix for clear role allocation
  • Creation of a concrete implementation plan

3. Documentation and implementation

  • Modeling the new processes in a business process modeling tool
  • Preparation of a training and coaching plan for employees
  • Adaptation of IT to support the digitalized processes
Roche Consulting Approach

Solutions & results in detail

The introduction of a RACI matrix ensured clearly defined responsibilities. In combination with optimized processes, a higher degree of digitalization and targeted training, throughput times were reduced by 35%. The new structures create a solid foundation for future process developments.

Conclusion

With valantic, Roche fundamentally modernized its P2P structures. The result: increased efficiency, improved transparency and a future-proof process landscape.
