The challenge in detail

The publishing house Aenne Burda GmbH & Co KG was faced with the task of replacing the existing Akeneo Community Edition (CE) with the more powerful Akeneo Enterprise Edition (EE). At the same time, the data model had to be optimized, particularly in the area of variants and inheritance, and a new ERP system had to be introduced. The parallel migration and integration required precise coordination to ensure a smooth transition and collaboration between the systems.
Other challenges included the onboarding of articles from the design system and the transfer of data to Magento and other marketplaces.

Burda focused on a clear approach and modern technologies

Advice on the inheritance structure

Development of a new inheritance model and a new article number logic for a seamless data flow between design, PIM and ERP.

Data flow

Optimization and coordination of the data flow sequence (Design → PIM → ERP) to ensure an efficient process.

Integration of Amazon S3

Improved asset communication with Magento through the use of Amazon S3 technology, which enables optimized management of distributed patterns (physical and digital).

Central focus on the key topics for Burda

Central PIM and MAM

The implementation of a central solution for product and media data.

System integration

Connection of the design system (source) and the ERP system (target system) to ensure a seamless connection between the platforms.

Special features of the project

Data model

Migration from a flat article structure to a three-level inheritance model, which was later optimized in the course of ERP integration.

Product variety

The product range extends from print magazines to patterns, which are delivered to the store both as physical products (printed pattern sheets) and as digital products (downloads) via the PIM.

Parallel projects

  • Consulting for Akeneo Magento Connector
  • Consulting for structuring sales channel-specific data maintenance in Akeneo
