Get to know usThe future of product data management at Burda
Burda replaced Akeneo CE with Akeneo EE and integrated a new ERP system. With valantic’s support, central solutions for product and media data were implemented, shortening time-to-market and significantly increasing efficiency.
The challenge
The publisher Aenne Burda wanted to replace Akeneo CE with Akeneo EE and integrate a new ERP system. The data flow and inheritance logic were also to be optimized.
Consulting approach
valantic developed a new data model, integrated Amazon S3 technology and optimized the article data flow between design, PIM and ERP.
Customer benefits and solution
Central management and maintenance of product and media data, more efficient processes, shorter time-to-market and optimized interfaces.
Being creative, designing, making something with your own hands – what is summarized under the term “crafting” is a global consumer trend. burda create! bundles Burda’s activities in this area, inspires women to be passionate about handicrafts and makes them proud of their projects.
The focus of the media and digital activities is Europe, where burda create! is expanding its market leadership across all media and platforms. Under the umbrella of burda create!, Verlag Aenne Burda (Munich and Offenburg) and Verlag Editions DIPA (Strasbourg) work closely together and continue to develop the business: Verlag Aenne Burda with the core brand burda style, whose products are available in 17 languages, and Verlag Editions DIPA for the international create! magazine and pattern distribution.
What they all have in common is an increasing focus on direct customer business and the expansion of international digital offerings.
burda style is the creative magazine for everyone for whom fashion is an expression of individuality, personality and style. The first print edition was published in 1950 and burdastyle.de has been supporting creative sewing fans in the digital world since 2001, offering magazines and patterns as well as attractive club offers. Users can also find well-founded sewing aids as well as tips and tricks for sewing on burdastyle.de.
The publishing house Aenne Burda GmbH & Co KG was faced with the task of replacing the existing Akeneo Community Edition (CE) with the more powerful Akeneo Enterprise Edition (EE). At the same time, the data model had to be optimized, particularly in the area of variants and inheritance, and a new ERP system had to be introduced. The parallel migration and integration required precise coordination to ensure a smooth transition and collaboration between the systems.
Other challenges included the onboarding of articles from the design system and the transfer of data to Magento and other marketplaces.
Advice on the inheritance structure
Development of a new inheritance model and a new article number logic for a seamless data flow between design, PIM and ERP.
Data flow
Optimization and coordination of the data flow sequence (Design → PIM → ERP) to ensure an efficient process.
Integration of Amazon S3
Improved asset communication with Magento through the use of Amazon S3 technology, which enables optimized management of distributed patterns (physical and digital).
Central PIM and MAM
The implementation of a central solution for product and media data.
System integration
Connection of the design system (source) and the ERP system (target system) to ensure a seamless connection between the platforms.
Data model
Migration from a flat article structure to a three-level inheritance model, which was later optimized in the course of ERP integration.
Product variety
The product range extends from print magazines to patterns, which are delivered to the store both as physical products (printed pattern sheets) and as digital products (downloads) via the PIM.
Parallel projects
Central management and maintenance of product and media data.
Efficient data maintenance through optimized inheritance management.
Standardization and harmonization of attributes, adapted to different countries and platforms.
Shortened time-to-market for product data, both with Magento and Channable, for forwarding to various marketplaces.
