Optimized SCM organization at Dr. Schär

Together with valantic, Dr. Schär defined a new organizational structure for supply chain management. The focus was on setting up a central SCM department, evaluating existing processes by benchmark and developing a uniform understanding of supply chain management. This created the basis for effective and sustainable management of the supply chain.

About the company

Dr. Schär is a leading manufacturer of gluten-free foods based in South Tyrol. The company employs more than 1,000 people and has an annual turnover of over 320 million euros. Together with valantic, the supply chain management organization was restructured. The focus was on setting up a central SCM department and evaluating existing processes with the help of a benchmark. In addition, a uniform understanding of supply chain management was anchored in the company.

The project

The challenge

Dr. Schär previously had no central SCM department for structured supply chain management. There was also a lack of KPI-based supply chain controlling. The aim was to create a sustainable SCM structure and process organization, evaluate processes and identify areas for further development.

  • Interviews to record and evaluate the existing processes

2. Benchmarking and potential assessment

  • Benchmarking of central SCM processes against external best practices
  • Identification of areas for improvement and potential savings through IT support

  • Definition of the new SCM organizational structure incl. roles & responsibilities
  • Proposal for the introduction of new positions for operational and strategic management
  • Creation of a uniform understanding of SCM among managers

Solutions & results in detail

valantic supported Dr. Schär in the conception of a central SCM department, which will bundle all core functions of a board division in the future. Interfaces to adjacent areas were clearly defined and roles and responsibilities were assigned in a structured manner. In addition, benchmarking showed targeted levers for process improvement and digital SCM controlling.

Conclusion

Together with valantic, Dr. Schär set up the supply chain structures in a future-oriented manner. The new organizational logic creates clear responsibilities and permanently increases transparency and controllability along the entire supply chain.
