Online marketplaces (also called E-marketplaces or electronic marketplaces) are electronically supported institutions for the exchange of products and services. They provide the institutional framework for transaction processes and, as independent mediation services, compete with other distribution and communication media. Sellers and buyers meet in these marketplaces and their transaction inquiries are coordinated (coordination function).
