About Coop

Coop is one of the most well-known supermarket chains in Switzerland. With over 150 years of experience, the internationally active company provides Swiss customers with products to meet all their everyday needs.

However, Coop is much more than just a local supermarket. The Coop Group comprises various sales formats, wholesalers, and production companies, catering to a wide range of customer needs. This is reflected in the steady growth of the company’s total sales, which reached an impressive 31.9 billion Swiss francs in 2021. With a workforce of 95,000 employees, Coop is a major player in Switzerland.

The challenge

Navigating the vast product selection offered by the Coop Group can be overwhelming. However, the new omnichannel platform, implemented by valantic in collaboration with the Swiss supermarket giant, puts an end to this. By integrating coop@home, Mondovino, and the Coop corporate website, customers can now easily shop online or check the availability of products at their preferred outlet.

Of course, a project of this magnitude naturally presents numerous challenges. For instance, mastering effective collaboration and coordination of a large team from different disciplines, using diverse technologies. In addition, it was a major task to integrate existing processes, solutions, and systems in a meaningful way while considering various requirements and stakeholders.

The solution

The new shared online store offers a comprehensive overview of all products offered by the Coop Group. With the convenient smart search feature, customers can easily and quickly choose from over 19,000 products across the entire Coop supermarket range. Customers then have the option to have their purchases delivered to their home or to pick them up at a local pick-up station.

As part of the implementation of the new platform, the language offering was also expanded: Customers can now access coop.ch in German, French, Italian, and English.

Interesting: The project was executed in close collaboration with Coop in scrum teams.
