A uniform appearance for the green heart of Austria

New web presence for Styria

Styria is a popular vacation destination in Austria. Nature, culture or culinary delights: Each of the eleven regions offers unique experiences for every taste. In order to digitally present their numerous facets, a decision was made to consolidate all content on one website – with valantic as the implementation partner.

  • development of personas for each region
  • definition of the core topics based on the previously created personas
  • support in the creation of new web content
  • portal-subportal principle
  • a fully integrated information and e-commerce platform
  • interactive maps and a natively integrated tour portal
  • microsites for businesses and partners

About Steirische Tourismus und Standortmarketing GmbH- STG

Steirische Tourismus und Standortmarketing GmbH- STG of the province of Styria operates in the business fields of tourism and location marketing. One important task is the ongoing monitoring of social trends.

As a tourism organization, it is also responsible for the implementation of all national and international marketing measures. Other tasks include the development of brand content as well as cross-regional vacation products.

The challenge

A tour description here, a hiking route there – over the years, a wide variety of content pages had accumulated both on steiermark.com and on the websites of the regions. This also resulted in inconsistent data of poor quality and low relevance. In addition, important topics were presented on several websites, resulting in duplicate content.

Detailed analyses were to bring order into the content chaos. This resulted in a sound website concept and comprehensive content strategy. Both pursued the same goal: to offer the best possible user experience.

The solution

A uniform, appealing design with numerous features for maximum usability: This is what users find when researching vacation offers, attractions and more in Styria. And the harmonious impression carries through to the backend.

While each region used to “do its own thing”, today all content pages, assets and objects are stored in one Pimcore portal – for Styria as well as the eleven adventure regions. From digital asset management with the Pimcore Asset Experience Portal to open data interfaces via the Pimcore Data Hub: steiermark.com as well as the websites of the regions now benefit from the manifold possibilities of Pimcore.

More benefits for Styria

In the course of the project, the following measures were implemented, which will support Styria in the creation of content in the future:

Next steps in the collaboration

After the go-live of the website, the focus will now be on monitoring and evaluating the new pages. Another goal of the SEO and content monitoring package is to keep the texts about excursion destinations and tours as well as magazine articles up-to-date.
In addition, cross-regional highlights such as personalization options, customer loyalty tools and e-commerce expansions are planned.
