SAP authorization management for Vitakraft

Internationally uniform authorization concept and SAP solution for automated authorization management

Since 2005, Vitakraft has been using SAP to control its pet food business at its eight sales units across Europe. Because the information is handled by a central SAP system, the implementation of an international, uniform authorization concept was also necessary. Within the next few years, all subsidiaries were supposed to be converted to SAP.

Project goal

An overview of the project

Approximately 420 Vitakraft employees worldwide work with SAP solutions. A great deal of time was required for manual adjustment and checking of the roles, for the point was to ensure that each user could only access the authorizations he actually needed. In addition, during the authorization awarding process, there was supposed to be an automatic check of critical transactions. For these reasons, the company was looking for an SAP-integrated solution that could implement an individual authorization concept in compliance with regulations and significantly reduce the daily administrative effort for role maintenance. In a selection process, the integrated SAP solution for automated authorization management from valantic (formerly realtime AG), was identified as the one best-suited to the task.

Scope

The requirements for the new solution included:

  • Granting of minimal authorizations
  • Automatic checking of critical transactions
  • Easy granting and management of access rights with the necessary restriction
  • Little training effort
  • Significantly easier role administration

Result

With apm atlantis, the granting of access rights with the necessary restriction can be managed easily in a clear, 3-window portal with embedded ALV grid tables.

Basic or country-specific changes in the roles, for example due to the creation of an individual accounting area in the SAP system for a legally independent company, can be made centrally with little effort in apm atlantis. In apm composer, it is possible to assign new authorizations to entire groups of employees or organizational units quickly and flexibly.

At the same time, it is possible to detect whether, by whom, and when these access rights were approved. The detailed analyses and reports guarantee long-term adherence to legal requirements.
