SAP harmonization

Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller integrates Homann Feinkost

In order to ensure that your company is fit to face the future, growing companies should constantly consolidate and harmonize their core business processes and IT environment. The big challenge for Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller (UTM) was integrating the SAP environment of the subsidiary Homann Feinkost GmbH (Homann) at its six German locations efficiently, with predictable costs, and on the planned schedule into its own SAP system environment.

Project goal

An overview of the project

For  Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller, the goal was to create a common system basis, which could be used later for additional optimizations and process harmonization. Similarly, a uniform database, which integrates data from its subsidiary, was supposed to allow transparent reporting.

Scope

The project was complex from the very start. It included:

  • Integration of the SAP environment including connection of several subsystems of Homann Feinkost GmbH to the SAP environment of Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller in six German locations
  • Harmonization and optimization of the areas finance and accounting, controlling, personnel, sales, materials management/production/logistics, development, business intelligence (BW), data migration, and test management
  • More than 140 project participants
  • Steering committee consisting of management and all department managers
  • Strategic and operative project management by valantic (external part)

Result

In the end, UTM had the complete implementation with a go-live scenario without compromising business operations. Furthermore, the project was completed on-time and in-budget. The successful project set a milestone for the implementation of large IT projects and ensured great satisfaction in the department and among management.

”For the success of a harmonization project of this order of magnitude, we required the support of specialists with many years’ project experience in our industry and with special expertise in data migration. This is why we opted for cooperation with valantic [formerly realtime AG] as the general contractor for bundling all external activities in the SAP sector.“

”The early start of work on the data migration proved to be good and the driver for the entire project. Even the first test runs were of high quality. In the productive data migration, there were no more surprises. In addition, consistent risk management – with a go-live in twelve steps with the separation of technical and actual go-live instead of big bang – proved decisive.“
