Effective Field
The Head of Software Engineering (all genders) leads six engineering teams building mission-critical applications for capital markets (across front, middle and back-office) and payments.
Besides ensuring high-quality, scalable software delivery, the role acts as a transformation and change agent for modern engineering practices, driving the adoption of new ways of working, tools and mindsets across a geographically distributed organization.
This leader partners closely with Product, Architecture and the QA/Test Office to reshape how software is built, tested and delivered.
Leadership & Organization
- Lead the transformation of the engineering organization, evolving structures, roles, processes and behaviors to support scale, speed and quality
- Act as a visible advocate for change, challenging legacy practices and embedding modern engineering and delivery models
- Lead, develop and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers
- Foster a high-performance, secure-by-design culture with strong accountability and data driven continuous improvement
- Build and retain strong engineering talent
- Understand clients’ needs and communicate with key clients to understand their needs and priorities
- Drive productivity and ongoing process improvements across teams by establishing common processes and a data driven approach
Engineering Delivery
- Lead the transformation of the engineering organization, evolving structures, roles, processes and behaviors to support scale, speed and quality

Technology & Architecture
- Work with Architecture to shape platform evolution (scalability, resilience, use of cloud technology)
- Enforce engineering standards, performance benchmarks, and secure coding practices
- Drive reduction of technical debt and technology innovation
Collaboration
- Work closely with Product to balance innovation with regulatory, operational and engineering requirements
- Work with the QA/Test Office to ensure quality standards are defined and adhered to
- Collaborate with SaaS/Operations, Security, and Risk teams to support reliable, compliant production services
Governance & Vendor Management
- Manage budgets and external development partners
- Ensure adherence to audit, security, and regulatory obligations (e.g., ISO 27001, PSD2, MiFID-related controls)
What distinguishes you
- 10+ years in software engineering with significant leadership experience in FinTech, Capital Markets, and/or Payments
- Proven track record of leading organizational and engineering transformation
- Proven success managing multiple engineering teams delivering complex, high-availability systems.
- Ability to influence, inspire and lead through change at all levels of the organisation
- Strong expertise in modern architectures, cloud platforms, DevSecOps, and regulated SDLC environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
